Deadline Approaching to Submit Treasury TAC Nominations

The Department of the Treasury ("Treasury") is seeking nominations for the Secretary of the Treasury's ("Secretary") three appointments to the Treasury Tribal Advisory Committee (TTAC). The Tribal General Welfare Exclusion Act of 2014 (TGWEA) established the TTAC to advise the Secretary on matters relating to the taxation of Indians and in the development of education, training for Internal Revenue Service field agents who administer and enforce internal revenue laws with respect to Indian tribes, and to meet the requirement to provide training and technical assistance to tribal financial officers.

TTAC candidates must pass an IRS tax compliance check and an FBI background investigation. Federally-registered lobbyists may not serve on the TTAC. Treasury does not restrict TTAC membership to only tribal leaders, rather specifies that they are seeking applicants with "experience and qualifications" in "Indian taxation, Service [IRS] field agent training, and Native American financial officer training and technical assistance." To apply, applicants must submit a detailed resume and cover letter that specify the reason for applying and agrees to submit to the tax and criminal background investigation. To nominate an individual, submit a letter detailing the qualifications and skills of that individual that make them a good candidate for the TTAC and their contact information.

Treasury is accepting nominations applications for the TTAC through April 28, 2015. Nominations and applications may be sent to with the subject line, "Treasury Tribal Advisory Committee member recommendation or application."

In addition to submitting application and nominations to Treasury, we also encourage tribal leaders to submit recommendations to the Congress members responsible for the four other TTAC positions. The four Congress members are:

  • Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch of Utah
  • Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden of Oregon
  • House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin
  • House Ways and Means Ranking Member Sander Levin of Michigan
