June 26th, 2019

Yesterday the Trump Administration announced the nomination of E. Seqouyah Simermeyer to be the next Chair of the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC). Mr. Simermeyer currently serves as the Associate Commissioner of NIGC, along with Kathryn Isom-Clause, who serves as the Acting Chair since the departure of former Chair, Jonodev Chaudhuri.
Simermeyer is member of the Coharie Tribe and has served as Counselor and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Department of the Interior's Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs and Counsel on the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, prior to his position as Associate Commissioner with NIGC.
The National Indian Gaming Association's Chairman, Ernie Stevens Jr., stated, "We are thrilled to see Seqouyah's nomination to become the new Chairman of the NIGC. I am confident he will continue the important work protecting the Tribal Government Gaming industry. We applaud the Administration for moving swiftly in this appointment process. We look forward to the Senate confirmation of Mr. Simermeyer. The National Indian Gaming Association would also like to thank Jonodev Chaudhuri for his work and years of service and commitment as the previous NIGC Chairman."
Simermeyer must now be confirmed by the Senate, but no immediate timeline has been announced. The National Indian Gaming Association will continue to notify its Member Tribes of the progress of Mr. Simermeyer's nomination in the Senate.
